After another successful competition last year, in 2024 the DLEF is offering three essay prizes. The first prize is for final year students, the next prize is for registrants who are in their first year of registration and the final prize is for those who are in years 2-5 post-registration.
To enter for the student prize, the applicants must have been in the final year of a course that can lead to GDC registration any time between 01 September 2023 and 01 May 2024.
To enter for the first year of registration prize, applicants must have been in their first year of GDC registration any time between 1 September 2023 and 1 May 2024.
To enter for the years 2-5 post registration prize, applicants must have been in either their second, third, fourth of fifth year of GDC registration any time between 1 September 2023 and 1 May 2024.
The winners of the prizes will be required to make a presentation based on their essays at the DLEF meeting on 12 December 2023.
The essay titles are:
FINAL YEAR STUDENTS – Word limit 800 words. Prize £250.
Is it ever acceptable for a qualified dental professional to discuss their religious beliefs with a patient?
FIRST YEAR REGISTRANTS – Word limit 1000 words. Prize £250.
Discuss how the standard of record keeping expected of a dental professional can be maintained in a busy workplace.
REGISTRANTS BETWEEN 2-5 YEARS POST REGISTRATION– Word limit 1500 words. Prize £250.
Can images of patients taken during dental training be used to promote the work of a dental professional in general practice?
Essays should be submitted by email to dleforum@hotmail.com by 12pm on 31 July 2024. The winners of the prizes will be notified by the end of September 2024.
DLEF can accept no responsibility for any entries that have not been received.
The judges’ decisions are final.
No feedback on the submitted essays will be provided.
The DLEF has the right to publish any submitted entries.
The winner must be able to present their winning essay at the DLEF meeting on 12 December 2024.
The prizes will be awarded to the winners at the end of the December meeting.
